Elixir hits a milestone.

Neil and Bari Padgett of A Paca Fun Farm with CCNF Elixir at the VAOBA Alpaca Expo yesterday afternoon.

Many thanks to our partners at A Paca Fun Farm for taking our young co owned Herdsire, CCNF Elixir, with them to the VAOBA Alpaca Expo this past weekend where he won both Light Male Huacaya Champion as well as Judge’s Choice Huacaya Male! With his 5th halter Championship at his 5th show (to go along with two JCs from the North American and The Futurity, plus one fleece show Championship) since first hitting the show circuit for us last April, he is now in an exclusive club of 1 here at Cas-Cad-Nac. The only other animals born here that have ever approached that level of consistency and success at his age are his great aunt, Magdalena (who won at both the NAAS and Futurity but in different calendar years), and his maternal grandsire, Archangel, who though an absolute terror at the regional level, could never muster more than a Reserve Championship as a juvenile at Futurity.

We have done this enough over the years to understand that all streaks do eventually, for one reason or another, come an end. It’s just the nature of the game. At the very least we hope that Elixir can take time out next spring and summer to start his breeding career, which all banners and ribbons aside is what it must ultimately be about anyway. For now though we will all (Lutzes and Padgetts) continue to enjoy the emotional roller coaster  — equal parts thrilling and terrifying — that comes from showing the greatest male that this breeding program has ever produced.
