I have finally got the write-ups done on two of our young up and coming Herdsires: Defiance, who is homegrown and his 1st cousin, Spirit Wind’s Maestro, whom we acquired from Karin and Jerry Young at Spirit Wind Farm & Fiber Studio.

Big D, for his part, just turned 2 earlier this month and along with being the son of our beloved super-dam, Cadenza , he also bares the burden of being one of the handful of Snowmass Elite Legend sons (Elixir, Hyperion, and the committee-to-be-named-later are the others) that we are counting on to fill their famous sire’s shoes, now that EL no longer calls CCNF home. We feel he’s up to the task!

Maestro is a more recent acquisition, having joined our foundation herd last fall after seeing him at the Empire Extravaganza in Syracuse, NY. Though a magnificent specimen in his own right, more importantly to us is that his sire, Xanadu P. Concerto, is the aforementioned Ms. Cadenza’s full sibling! Cadenza and her line are a lot like really good dark chocolate: you can never have quite enough. Though Maestro won’t be 2 years old until early July, we are still anticipating that we’ll be able to get him working this coming breeding season, all things being equal. Certainly the fact that he came into a rather raucous (and large) group of yearlings here and quickly established himself as one of the alphas, bodes very well for his prospects as a working Herdsire.  You can read about Defiance by clicking here and Maestro by clicking here.
