Maestro: another potential puzzle piece comes online…

We are happy to announce that as of earlier this week, our young Herdsire, Spirit Wind’s Maestro, now has his first confirmed pregnancy here at CCNF! We originally purchased Maestro from Jerry and Karin Young of Spirit Wind Farm & Fiber Studio, after being really impressed with him at his first ever show, the 2013 Empire Extravaganza.

At the time, we were just looking to add some depth to the colored side of our foundation herd but our new guy would in the end go on a show streak like few others the following spring, winning the fawn male championships at the 2014 AOA Nationals, the 2014 North American Alpaca Show, and perhaps most impressively, the 2014 Futurity!

Though he made a good effort throughout the 2014 breeding season — soon after his 2nd birthday — it turned out that Maestro just needed to mature and grow a bit more before he could tackle his responsibilities here fully. While his show winnings were of course nice, we did after all purchase him so that we could breed his excellent genetics into our herd, not so that he could be some kind of glorified, living hood ornament!

This summer though, he in fact got the job done on just a single breeding (for the record with CCNF Moonbeam), so apparently whatever positive visualization exercises he was partaking of during the off-season, they did the trick! You can read more about our now fully operational Herdsire here. Combined with the recent ascent of CCNF Defiance to functional status, it means that things at the Stud Barn are getting a bit more complicated. Though it is of course the sort of dilemma we are happy to have!
