Gary Henderson of Keva Ranch, Inc. with KVR’s Peruvian Drulon My Fleece (MFI Peruvian Presumption x KVR’s Prada My Fleece).

We are tickled to officially announce our new partnership with Keva Ranch Alpacas on their young male, KVR’s Peruvian Drulon On My Fleece! Though Drulon is only 10 months of age, whenever we get a chance to add a superlative young male with new genetics into the mix here, it is hard to pass up. That is especially true when we are partnering with folks we already know and trust. As those of you that have followed our journey in recent years may already know, we have quickly formed a bit of a mutual admiration society with Keva’s owners, Gary Henderson and his better half, Casey Ashline.  I would in fact argue that Keva Ranch is one of the pound for pound top alpaca breeding operations in the country. Anyone — including as noted below, CCNF on occasion — can buy another program’s production and show it. But Gary and Casey have been making these animals themselves for a while now and at some point, the numbers just don’t lie. If you don’t believe me, have a look around the show results of the past few years: it’s all rather impressive for a ranch of only 30 +/- alpacas.

Drulon is in fact the 3rd animal we have purchased from these good folks, having been proceeded here by MFI & KVR’s Mint Mo Money (the 2015 Futurity White Champion Male & Judges’ Choice Huacaya Male, whom we co own with our buddies at Emelise Alpacas) as well as MFI & KVR’s Fila My Fleece, who is not by chance Drulon’s full sibling. Having fallen in love with Fila last August at the Breeders Edge sale, and having watched Drulon grow up from afar, we knew it was worth a road trip out to Illinois to put our hands on the young fellow and he, of course, did not disappoint! Quality talks. For now, Drulon is being campaigned by his birth farm on the spring show circuit where he’s already won a color championship (he’s dark fawn, by the way) at the Railsplitter Alpaca Show as well as a blue ribbon at the just completed AOA Nationals. I’m sure he’ll make an appearance out east at some point though given his tender age, there is no rush. If you’re curious to see what all the hubbub is about though, you can always stop by our pens at either the upcoming NAAS/Northeast show weekend or at the Mapaca Jubilee and put your hands on his older sister. Fila for her part, will end her show career with us this April, before formally joining our breeding program in July when a certain handsome beige Herdsire from Maryland finally comes back home. As for her kid brother: Drulon is a young male with a very bright future here and we are certain that he will likewise be worth the wait! Stay tuned…
