Labor day(s)

CCNF Panamera’s Sub-Zero son strikes a pose earlier today. He and his penmates are getting cria shorn as this is written…

Holy baby boom Batman! Jen started the tradition several years back of taking the farm’s staff out to the local Chinese buffet for lunch any time that we have had 3 or more . . . → Read More: Labor day(s)

Getting the band back together one last time.

Tessora, Capuchin, Sugar Plum, (Moonbeam’s arse), and Freedom Reign enjoying some time in the sunshine today at the CCNF Main Barn.

As of this past weekend, virtually all of the animals that are going to be a part of our spring show strings over the next month and a half were together in one . . . → Read More: Getting the band back together one last time.

Legitimate Contender

TGF Legit at the 2013 Empire Extravaganza.

It is no secret that we are good friends with Ryen and Ursula Munro, the former owners of Tripping Gnome Farm Alpacas. Our two farms also shared a very close business relationship in recent years, owning several of our most prominent Herdsires together, and we were almost . . . → Read More: Legitimate Contender

Settling in…

As I write this on early Friday afternoon there is technically snow falling outside of my office window. Though I am an enthusiastic alpine skier, I can’t claim to be totally happy about this. I suspect my psychological state, at least this time of the year, consistently lags behind the local climactic reality by at . . . → Read More: Settling in…

2013 Empire Alpaca Extravaganza: the show seasons ends with a bang!

Sweeping the Judges’ Choice awards at Empire. Left to right: Jennifer with CCNF Legionnaire, Judges Kevin O’Leary and Arturo Peña, and yours truly with my favorite new show pony, CCNF Prima Majesty.

Well that was interesting to say the least. We honestly didn’t head to the Empire show in Syracuse, NY last Friday thinking . . . → Read More: 2013 Empire Alpaca Extravaganza: the show seasons ends with a bang!

The end is near

A female we love: Ascension (the dam of Elixir and Centurion) enjoys a quiet moment in the maternity pen at the CCNF Arena. Ascension, who is not in fact due until late December, will be moved into the Arena’s warm room once she gets to within a month or so of her due date.

Holding pattern

Random bits while waiting for the 2013 cria dam to truly break:

1. La Vie en Rose and Capella, who were both due in May have now had their crias (1 female, 1 male for whatever it’s worth) but that leaves 60+ more females that are due between now and December, the vast majority over . . . → Read More: Holding pattern

Herdsire additions…

Snowmass Sub-Zero

Nothing terribly profound here. I just got around in the past couple of days to doing the official write-ups for a few of our “newer” boys at the CCNF Stud Barn. You can read the drivel on both Snowmass Sub-Zero and Snowmass Conopa’s Kahuna, here and here. We’re pretty psyched about what . . . → Read More: Herdsire additions…

Live from Las Vegas!

CCNF Solara at last fall's Empire Extravaganza.

Though we always miss the mountains of Vermont when we’re on the road, I can’t say that we’re missing the cold back home one iota! We heard that the temperatures topped off at -13 yesterday at CCNF, so even though it was only in the 50s when . . . → Read More: Live from Las Vegas!

Mergers and acquisitions

Snowmass Conopa's Kahuna with Ryen on the lead line winning the Fawn Male Championship at the 2012 Futurity this past April. This was the second year in a row that Kahuna took that honor. Kahuna is now co owned with Pamela Brewster of Stillmeadow Farm.

I’ll admit that writing this post is very bittersweet . . . → Read More: Mergers and acquisitions
