We have been fortunate in recent years to be invited to participate in the annual Parade of Champions auction, which nowadays takes place every spring at Little Creek Farm in North Salem, NY, this time around on June 1st & 2nd. As the alpaca market has evolved and changed over the better part of the past 10 years, Little Creek-Accoyo America/Snowmass Alpacas owner, Lynn Edens, and her team have done a consistently amazing job of making the POC the single most important non-show event in North American alpacadom, arguably the most important event period, full stop. While the animals that we all as consignors put up for sale at the auction are obviously the main attraction, everything else from the in-depth speakers and panels that Lynn has hosted during those weekends, to the wonderfully fun and inventive “celebrity” alpaca cook-off, has really led the way in making the Parade of Champions a must-attend event for any serious breeder. Whether one is focused just on advancing their herd specifically or the greater issues and questions driving the greater alpaca industry (and yes, all of what that specific term entails) forward, the POC is The Room Where It Happens. If you’ve never been to the Parade of Champions in prior years, you are sorely missing out on so many different levels, it’s really hard to quantify.

This year at the auction, we are again consigning some really special stuff in the form of a couple of beautiful yearling females: 4-time Champion CCNF Magisteria at lot #6, who is the first animal we have ever offered sired by her Futurity Champion father, CCNF Magistrate, and then a made Princess of the Lilah/Magdalena/PPeruvian Jesusa line, CCNF Midnatsol at lot #34, who just so happens to have been sired by the mighty Snowmass Matrix Majesty himself. Both females just completed their very successful show careers and were shorn and made ready for the auction, with the idea that they will come back home with us afterwards and breed with 2017 Futurity Herdsire of the Year, CCNF Elixir, a genetic cross (Majesty lines x Elixir) whose potency is really beyond reproach at this point in time. I wont belabor the point (I have Openherd sales listings as well as previous blog posts to do that for me) but suffice it to say that if Magisteria and Midnatol weren’t legitimately special, we wouldn’t have bothered consigning them in the first place. Please check them out and feel free to reach out to us via all the usual mediums with any questions that you might have! And if you haven’t already done so, please consider RSVPing to the Parade of Champions – even if you’re not interested in elite dark huacaya females: you will learn a lot, get a chance to talk shop with other breeders, and you will have a fantastic time, all while putting your hands on some amazing alpacas!
