CCNF Bataclan: another puzzle piece falls into place…

CCNF Bataclan

We are thrilled to announce that our newly minted 2 year old Herdsire, CCNF Bataclan, has achieved his first confirmed pregnancy – the direct result of his first ever breeding no less! Bataclan, who was last seen in public collecting the RC White Male banner and trophy from the 2018 Futurity, is a big part of this breeding program’s future strategic plans and to know that we will be able to count on him throughout the 2018 breeding season certainly makes our lives a lot easier.

The son of Futurity Champions CCNF Elixir (Elite Legend/Archangel/5P Cangalli) and CCNF Daliance (a lovely little Sub Zero/Precocious/Bueno mix), Bataclan represents a real hybrid of some of the best white/light lines we have worked with here over the past 21 years. We are obviously excited to see where he takes us next!

A gentle soul, just like his sire was at the same age, we are handling our beloved rookie with kid gloves, stage managing his experiences down at the breeding barn and the Arena so that his budding sense of self confidence doesn’t get squashed by some foul-tempered female. No greater buzz-kill after all than a swift kick to the head, though high marks I suppose for clearly demarcating where you stand, but please, just not with my rook. Abuse the older, experienced males all you want ladies: they can take it.

The heat wave that had been dominating our weather since last Sunday finally broke last night with the arrival of some very welcome rain showers. Consequently breeding activities at the farm have returned to their more regular rhythm after 5 days of tromping up half awake (time to make the crias?) to grab the boys in the cool(ish) 80 degree early morning hours. All good though, we will always continue to do whatever the situation requires. While real progress has been made over the first 2+ weeks of our breeding season — not uncommon to have facilitated 6 or 7 breedings/day when all parties were willing — the list of open females remains a long one, so here’s hoping for a return to more moderate summer temps and regular service going forward!
