    Breeding season in full swing…

The Herdsires here at CCNF have been working at full bore for about a month now. Though we normally don’t get things going in that regard here until around the 1st of July most years, with the family’s decision to take a quick early summer vacation to the UK at the end of June, yours truly…

  • Tree dodging

Some parts of each year are just like this. We of course try to be as proactive as possible about things both in our family life as well as with stuff pertaining to the animals in the herd (as if that were really separate) but ultimately there come moments — and suspiciously they seem to…

    Learning to fly…

So the learning curve for the young man pictured here might be a bit steeper than most before he reaches maturity. Admittedly there are working Herdsires on this farm (who’s identity shall be protected for the sake of their reputations) who have, in their enthusiasm, tried a similar stunt as adults. Sorry boys, the females…

  • How can you tell when your females are open and ready for breeding?

How can you tell when your females are open and ready for breeding?

When there are 6 of them cushed right up against another breeding! This shot was taken yesterday @5PM at the CCNF Arena. Unfortunately for Precocious (the lucky Herdsire in this particular instance) only one of the others is slated for him in the coming days. I’m sure it’s an ego boost just the same though…
