Thank You Broad Creek Alpacas!

Well, that was kind of fun actually! In the face of the Corona virus pandemic, the 2020 Futurity Sale was moved to a live online format, using the site Proxibid, with the entirety of the Celebrity Sales auction team simulcasting from different locations spread out between Oregon and Nebraska and…it actually worked. Well done team! Gotta love it when technology actually comes thru. It also goes to show that when one puts quality animals up for sale and markets them effectively, that even in challenging times, it can produce real results. As Celebrity Sales’ pedigree reader Joe Miller pointed out, we would have all (auctioneers, consignors, and would-be buyers alike) of course preferred to have been at the live auction venue at the American Royal in Kansas City instead but the fates had other ideas, so we all played the hand that was dealt.

For our part, we want to thank our repeat customer, Donna Atkins of Broad Creek Alpacas, for her putting her trust in us yet again (!) and picking up our dynamic juvi girl, CCNF Isoletta (CCNF Isola x CCNF Angiolo)! If you followed what happened with our consignments at the Amber Autumn Sale back in February, you’ll realize that Broad Creek Alpacas is now quietly assembling a mini herd of Ascension line females. It’s the one sort of hoarding behavior that is a definite positive (say the people with a long history of hoarding maternal lines) – certainly smarter and more rewarding than hoarding cases of Charmin Ultra Soft anyway.

While Isoletta and her peers in our 2019 birth class missed out on the show circuit this spring because of the pandemic, we can project given the history of both sides of her pedigree, that she nonetheless has a very bright future ahead of her, whether that be first as a show animal (and for whatever it’s worth, we had her ranked internally as the #1 light female on our Futurity team before the world went sideways), or later as a top flight foundation female. As ever, when we sell an alpaca of Isoletta’s elite caliber, we are just excited to see what she will do for our customer’s breeding program and helping them to shape that, at least in the short term, with that first breeding decision next year. It’s all good. Congrats to all of the other participants in the sale too, regardless of which side of the ledger you were on. We were just thrilled to be a part of it! Stay safe and stay healthy everybody and we hope to see many of you again in person in the not too distant future!
